Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE)

This ethylene polymer has branched chains, so LDPE chains cannot bond well with each other and have poor intermolecular and lower tensile strength. This type of polyethylene is usually produced by radical polymerization. The polymer is characterized by flexibility and the ability to decompose by microorganisms. Polyethylene has a low density because of low molecular weight, which increases its flexibility. More than fifty percent of this product is used in the production of films and sheets for use in transparent talc coatings, packing liners, covers and suitcases. This type of polymer is also used to make containers such as pressurized bottles. Other uses include lightweight polyethylene, insulation of wire and cable, and paper cover.
